Superheroes

Make your own superhero comic

Inventing your own superhero is more fun than copying a famous one, and teachers usually value it more. Here are power and villain ideas plus an 8 panel origin story script.

Story ideas

Everyday power

A hero whose power is finding lost things: keys, socks, pets.

The misunderstood villain

A villain who just wants to be invited to the heroes' party.

Neighborhood hero

A grandma with super strength who protects her local market.

Sample script: The origin of Captain Sock

  1. 1Caption: “It all started on an ordinary Monday…” A kid searches for his lost sock.
  2. 2He reaches under the bed and touches something glowing.
  3. 3A flash: FLASH! His eyes light up.
  4. 4He discovers he can find anything lost just by thinking about it.
  5. 5Big panel: he poses with a bedsheet cape and a big “S” on his chest.
  6. 6His neighbor is crying: she lost her puppy.
  7. 7The hero closes his eyes, points and runs. ZOOM!
  8. 8He returns the puppy. Caption: “A hero was born. A small one, but a hero.”

Tips

  • A power with limits (only on Mondays, only with lost things) gives more stories.
  • The costume should be quick to draw: one strong color, a simple symbol and a cape.
  • The biggest panel is for the first time the hero uses the power.

Frequently asked questions

Choose an original power, a weakness, a name linked to the power and a simple costume. Then think about who needs their help.

Most often the origin: how the hero got the power and the first time they use it to help someone.

For practice at home, sure, but if you are publishing or handing in your comic it's better to invent your own hero: it's more original and avoids copyright problems.
