Easy comics to draw

Eight short comic ideas designed to be drawn with simple shapes, even stick figures. Each one has a panel-by-panel script and opens in the editor as a template.

Tricks to make your comic easy to draw

Simple characters

A round head, two dots for eyes and a line for a mouth are enough. The mouth and eyebrows change the emotion.

Few characters

One or two characters are plenty for a short story.

Minimal backgrounds

A line for the ground and one object (a table, a tree) tell us where we are.

Repeat panels

Copy the same drawing into two panels and change only the face: it saves time and works great for humor.

Easy comic ideas with a script

1. The alarm clock

Difficulty: Very easy 4 panels
  1. 1A kid sleeps in bed. Next to him, an alarm clock: RIIING!
  2. 2Without opening his eyes, he turns it off. CLICK!
  3. 3He keeps sleeping and smiles: “Five more minutes…” ZZZ!
  4. 4The kid runs into school… in his pajamas. Everyone stares.

How to draw it: You only need a bed (a rectangle), a clock (a circle with two little legs) and a stick figure.

2. The plant that wouldn't grow

Difficulty: Very easy 4 panels
  1. 1A girl plants a seed in a pot.
  2. 2The next day she checks: nothing has grown. “Hmm…”
  3. 3She plays it music, talks to it and sings. The pot looks the same.
  4. 4Finally a tiny leaf appears. The girl celebrates as if it were a tree.

How to draw it: The pot is a trapezoid and the plant a line with two leaves. The fun is in the girl's faces.

3. The cat and the box

Difficulty: Very easy 3 panels
  1. 1The cat gets a brand new, very expensive bed.
  2. 2The cat ignores it and climbs into the box it came in.
  3. 3The owner gives up and sleeps in the cat bed.

How to draw it: Draw a cat with an oval, two triangles for ears and an S-shaped tail.

4. Pop quiz

Difficulty: Easy 6 panels
  1. 1The teacher walks in: “Take out a sheet of paper, pop quiz.”
  2. 2Close-up of the student: a drop of sweat. GULP!
  3. 3He reads the first question and understands nothing.
  4. 4He looks out the window for inspiration: a bird stares back.
  5. 5The answer comes to him and he writes very fast. SCRIBBLE SCRIBBLE!
  6. 6He proudly hands it in… and the teacher says it was for another subject.

How to draw it: Alternate a panel of the whole classroom with one of the student's face: the nerves show without drawing much.

5. The ice cream

Difficulty: Very easy 4 panels
  1. 1A kid buys a three-scoop ice cream. He is so happy.
  2. 2It is very hot: the sun has an evil face.
  3. 3The ice cream starts melting and dripping. DRIP DRIP!
  4. 4Only the empty cone is left. The dog, on the other hand, is thrilled.

How to draw it: The ice cream is circles on a triangle; the drops, little tears.

6. The umbrella

Difficulty: Very easy 4 panels
  1. 1A lady leaves home with a huge umbrella. It is sunny.
  2. 2Everyone on the street gives her strange looks.
  3. 3Suddenly it starts pouring. WHOOSH!
  4. 4Everyone is under the lady's umbrella, and she smiles.

How to draw it: The umbrella is a half circle with a handle. Slanted lines are enough for rain.

7. The dog who wanted to fly

Difficulty: Easy 6 panels
  1. 1A dog watches birds flying from the backyard.
  2. 2He puts on cardboard wings and climbs onto a box.
  3. 3He jumps… and lands on the grass. THUD!
  4. 4He tries a balloon tied to his collar. Nothing happens.
  5. 5His owner sees he is sad and puts him on a swing.
  6. 6The dog swings with his ears in the wind: he is flying!

How to draw it: The dog's ears tell the story: droopy when sad and up when flying.

8. My useless superpower

Difficulty: Easy 6 panels
  1. 1A girl discovers she has a superpower.
  2. 2She can turn invisible!… but only when nobody is looking.
  3. 3Big panel: the girl strikes a hero pose, cape and all.
  4. 4She tries to show her brother. It doesn't work.
  5. 5Her brother leaves and she vanishes. FLOOP!
  6. 6Her brother comes back and she reappears: “See?” “No.”

How to draw it: To show she is invisible, draw only her outline with a dotted line.
